1. Corrected information for Ethnic Fest -- 23 & 24 July in Tacoma

This is very embarrassing so please accept my apologies. The last email had
the wrong email address for interested volunteers. If you are interested
you may email the organizers at
<mailto:EthnicFest2008 at abolishdeathpenalty.org>
EthnicFest2008 at abolishdeathpenalty.org or you can call Rozanne at (360)
705-8520.

Here is the information about the event:

We have received a request for volunteer help from one of our member
organizations. The Olympia Fellowship of Reconciliation, Alternatives to
the Death Penalty Committee will have a booth at this year's Ethnic Fest in
Tacoma (see map below). The task is simple, but critical. As a volunteer
you will help run the "Knocking Down Death Penalty Myths" game, hand out
education material and answer questions.

WHO: Olympia Fellowship of Reconciliation
WHAT: Ethnic Fest (an annual event)
WHEN: Saturday & Sunday, 26 & 27 July 2008
WHERE: Tacoma's Wright Park (just north of Tacoma)
WHY: Increased activism outside of Seattle is vital to our success

2. A letter from Starvin' for Justice on the steps of the US Supreme Court

Dear friends and family,

Tomorrow I'll be traveling again to Washington D. C., as I did in 2006, to
participate in the "Starvin' for Justice" Fast and Vigil at The Supreme
Court. The purpose of the event is to educate the public and draw attention
to movement to abolish the death penalty in our country. The event is held
from June 28th through July 2nd each year because the Fuhrman vs. Georgia
decision, outlawing the death penalty, came down on a June 28th.
Unfortunately, a few years later The Supreme Court gave us a decision on a
July 2nd, in the case of Gregg vs. Georgia, which allowed the executions to
resume. Since then, well over 1000 of our death row prisoners have been
executed.

If you are so inclined, I ask your prayers for the success of the event, for
the eventual abolition of the death penalty and for my having a safe trip.
If prayer isn't part of your repertoire, meditate, think good thoughts or
whatever you do, but please speak out at any opportunity. We are a very
violent society - too violent! Help break the cycle of violence by helping
stop state sponsored killing. It certainly "sends the wrong message".
Thank you so much.

Peace,
Dave Avolio

3. A special appeal from the Texas Moratorium Network

Jeff Wood is waiting to die on Texas Death Row with an execution date of
August 21st, 2008. Jeff was charged under the Law of Parties, and was not
the shooter in this crime. Jeff could not anticipate that a murder would
occur. The actual shooter in this case has already been executed by the state
of Texas. For more information go to www.texasmoratorium.org.
