[WCADP-list] Two Death Penalty Bills Before WA Legislature!

We have two wonderful bills that have been introduced in the 2007
legislative session.

House Bill 1518 and Senate Bill 5786 would create a legislative task force
to conduct a review of existing death penalty statutes and study the
uniformity of the administration of Washington's death penalty law.

House Bill 1707 and Senate Bill 5787 would prohibit the death penalty for
individuals with a severe mental disorder.

The bills are sponsored by Senator Adam Kline (D-37) in the Senate and Rep.
Brendan Williams (D-22) in the House. All of the bills have an exciting
group of members co-sponsoring. The bills can viewed at

WHILE THIS IS NOT YET SET IN STONE, we will likely have a hearing on the
bills in BOTH the Senate and the House on **Wednesday, February 14th** in
the Senate and House Judiciary Committees. The hearings will be at 1:30 and
3:30. I will be in touch with you to confirm this date, but we are fairly
certain that this will be it.

PLEASE COME TO THE HEARING! Members of the public are welcome to sign-in in
support of the bill and/or testify in support of the bill. However, all
testimony will need to be limited to about 2 minutes.
