DESCRIPTION:  Darryl Hunt was just 19 years old when he was wrongly
convicted of a 1984 rape and murder that shook Winston-Salem, NC. In a case
that exemplifies so much that is wrong with our criminal justice system, he
then spent 18 years in prison for this crime he did not commit while
prosecutors and law enforcement officials fought against every attempt Mr.
Hunt and his lawyers made to prove his innocence -- even ignoring
opportunities to catch the real murderer.

 

"The Trials of Darryl Hunt" is a new documentary following Mr. Hunt's case
over the course of 20 years. It details the police investigation,
prosecutorial misconduct that led to the wrongful conviction, and the long
struggle to earn Mr. Hunt's eventual release in 2004 even though a DNA test
had cleared him of the crime ten years earlier. This movie is a must-see for
anyone interested in the causes and consequences of wrongful convictions.
"The Trials of Darryl Hunt" -- Break Thru Films in Association with HBO
Documentary Films -- premiered at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival and will
air on HBO in 2007. It is now being shown in film festivals across the US
and Internationally to an enthusiastic response.
