2006 Annual Dinner & Auction

Hello Everyone,
 
If you are on our regular mailing list you will have already received your
invitation to the 2006 Abolition Day Dinner & Auction.  If not, this is your
opportunity to join with the rest of the community to raise funds and
awareness.
 
This year's speaker, Bud Welch, tells a compelling story of moving from
overwhelming hate to an understanding that the death penalty would do
nothing to heal his pain.  His daughter, Julie Marie, was among the 168
people killed by Timothy McVeigh in Oklahoma City.  In his own words:

"For many months after the bombing I could have killed Timothy McVeigh
myself.  Temporary insanity is real, and I have lived it.  You cant' think
of enough adjectives to describe the rage, revenge, and hate I felt.  But
after time, I was able to examine my conscience, and I realized that if
McVeigh is put to death, it won't help me in the healing process...I finally
realized that the death penalty is all about revenge and hate, and revenge
and hate, and revenge and hate are why Julie Marie and 167 others are dead."
