I ask you, Governor Daniels, to stop your state's execution of Gregory
Johnson. Mr. Johnson is scheduled to die next Wednesday, 5/25/2005, for the
1985 murder of 82-year-old Ruby Hutslar.

Gregory Johnson has not yet received his constitutionally guaranteed fair
trial. DNA evidence obtained by the state during the trial by the
prosecution indicted the presence of someone other than Mr. Johnson. This
evidence was withheld from the defense. Once the evidence was discovered
the Federal Courts rejected it because Mr. Johnson's lawyer filed his motion
one day too late. The judges went so far as to say that "[Johnson's]
counsel bungled the job".

Governor Kernan, you cannot execute Gregory Johnson based on legal
proceedings corrupted by prosecutorial misconduct and incompetent
representation!

Former Attorney General of the United States of America Janet Reno, as well
as countless scholars, can find no evidence that the death penalty deters
capital crimes. In fact, the warden of the famous Sing Sing prison believes
that the death penalty exacerbates the violence in his facility by setting
an example of, "cold-blooded killing." In fact, recent studies show that
the largest increase in capital crimes is in Texas, the state that currently
executes the most people.

Please, Governor Kernan, exercise mercy and stop this killing of Gregory
Johnson.

Thank you.
