A sample message to Governor Bush:

 

I ask you, Governor Bush, to stop your state's execution of Glen Ocha.  Mr.
Ocha is scheduled to die next Tuesday, 4/5/2005, for the 1999 murder of
Carol Skjerva.

 

Mr. Ocha, who has changed his legal name to Raven Raven, has consistently
prevented his representatives from pursuing the appeals provided for by
Florida law to assure justice.  Instead, he dropped his lawful appeals and
is volunteering to be put to death by your state.  If you comply, you will
not only subvert justice and the law but also collude with Mr. Ocha in his
own suicide.  Governor Bush, on both humanitarian and legal grounds, you may
not execute Glen Ocha. 

 

Former Attorney General of the United States Janet Reno, as well as
countless scholars, can find no evidence that the death penalty deters
capital crimes. In fact, the warden of the famous Sing Sing prison believes
that the death penalty exacerbates the violence in his facility by setting
an example of cold-blooded killing.  Studies going back decades show that
the death penalty does not deter violent crime; in fact it appears to
actually increase the number of capital crimes in those states that execute
the most people.
