Yet again we have been called upon by fellow abolitionists from around the
country to help in their effort to spare the lives of those whose appeals
have run out or who have given up and are now willing to allow the state to
assist in what is essentially their suicide. The following three men are
depending upon all of us to rise up and take notice that they are about to
become victims of one of the greatest injustices of modern times: the
direct and deliberate taking of a human life by the state.

It will only take a minute to send an email or place a call and let Governor
Perry in Texas know that his killing machinery must stop. We have an
obligation to call upon Governor Easley of North Carolina to be a man of
compassion and not become the same kind of killer he condemns.

It is only together that we can have any impact. So please, before you
close this email or copy it to some folder for later consideration - won't
you pick up the phone and let these people know what they are doing isn't
just wrong, it is inhuman. No matter how heinous the crime we have no right
to take the life of another.

I ask you, Governor Perry, to stop your state's execution of Edward P.
Jones, III. Mr. Jones is scheduled to die next Tuesday, 10/5/2004, for the
1992 killings of Edward Perry Haden, 72, and Helen O'Sullivan, 63.

Mr. Jones was attempting a carjacking to get money for marijuana during the
commission of the crime for which he is now to die. As a child, he saw his
professional boxer father lynched and his mother abused by men who preyed on
her after her husband's death, 'helping' her feed drug habit. He possesses
none of the emotions we associate with normal human beings. It is clear,
Governor Perry, that Mr. Green needs treatment, not execution!

Former Attorney General of the United States Janet Reno, as well
as myriads of scholars, can find no evidence that the death penalty deters
capital crimes. In fact, the warden of the famous Sing Sing prison believes
that the death penalty exacerbates the violence in his facility by setting
an example of cold-blooded killing. Recent studies show that the largest
increase in capital crimes is in the state of Texas - your state - the state
which executes the most people.

Governor Perry you are given the power of clemency, please stop this killing
of Edward P. Green, III.

Thank you.

I ask you, Governor Perry, to stop your state's execution of Peter Miniel.
Mr. Miniel is scheduled to die next Wednesday, 10/6/2004, for the May, 1987
murder of Paul Manier, his drug connection.

Mr. Miniel and a friend had gone to the victim's home just prior to this
crime to party and 'score' marijuana and cocaine from him. Out of their
minds on drugs, they first robbed and then killed Mr. Manier. Mr. Miniel's
accomplice 'gave him up, receiving a 50-year sentence instead of death by
giving the prosecutor's what they wanted to execute Mr. Miniel. It is
clear, Governor Perry, that Mr. Miniel's drug addiction rendered him unaware
of his own actions during this crime, much less able to control them. He
needs treatment, not execution!

Former Attorney General of the United States Janet Reno, as well as myriads
of scholars, can find no evidence that the death penalty deters capital
crimes. In fact, the warden of the famous Sing Sing prison believes that the

I am writing to you, Governor Easley, to ask you to stop your state's
execution of Sammy Perkins. Mr. Perkins is scheduled to die next Friday,
10/8/2004, for the 1992 murder of 7-yr old Lashenna 'Jo Jo' Moore, the
granddaughter of his girl-friend.

Mr. Perkins has been diagnosed with bi-polar disorder. Given
this debilitating mental disease and the effects of the days-long alcohol
and crack binge Mr. Perkins was on at the time of the crime, he could not
control the behaviors for which he is now paying with his life. Further,
evidence has surfaced that his trial jurors were discussing his sentence
prior to even having heard the case! This demonstrated clear bias against
Mr. Perkins. Governor Easley, it is clear that this man needs treatment,
not execution and that your state did not assure his a fair trial!

Former Attorney General of the United States Janet Reno, as well
as myriads of scholars, can find no evidence that the death penalty deters
capital crimes. In fact, the warden of the famous Sing Sing prison believes
