1. Weekend of Faith in Action
What are you doing the weekend of October 22 thru 24? Would you be willing
to organize or attend an event?
The WCADP is encouraging its members to join in Amnesty International's
National Weekend of Faith in Action (NWFA). Amnesty launched this weekend
in hopes of bringing together two important approaches to social justice:
grassroots human rights activism and faith-based community action. The NWFA
is not a national conference or event; instead, it is a weekend of
solidarity action organized locally by individuals within faith communities
all over the country.
Currently, the following has been scheduled:
Deadline the Movie
Friday, October 22, at 7 PM
Wallingford Neighbors for Peace and Justice "Friday Night at The Meaningful
Movies"
Located at Keystone Church, 5019 Keystone Place North, Seattle (just north
of 50th & Sunnyside)
What would you do if you discovered that 13 people slated for execution had
been found innocent? That was exactly the question that Illinois Governor
George Ryan faced in his final days in office. He alone was left to decide
whether 167 death row inmates should live or die. In the riveting countdown
to Ryan's decision, Deadline details the gripping drama of the state's
clemency hearings. Documented as the events unfolded, Deadline is a
compelling look inside America's prisons, highlighting one man's unlikely
and historic actions against the system.
The film will be followed by a facilitated discussion, and is presented in
conjunction with the Buddhist Peace Fellowship, the WCADP, and others.
In addition, plans for a gathering before sunset with light food, social and
intentional conversation, and a candlelight covenant option to disavow the
taking of life if one's own life is taken, are being made for Sunday,
October 24. Contact Rick Harlan (with the Buddhist Peace Fellowship) to
volunteer or to share or receive information: (206) 329-8378.

Finally, if you hear of an event or want to advertise your own "Faith in
Action" event event on our website, please contact us at
info at abolishdeathpenalty.org or (206) 622-8952.

2. Interested in Volunteering?
The WCADP is essentially an all-volunteer organization. We need people with
a variety of skills doing everything from attending events, passing out
educational materials, speaking to groups, helping out in the office,
helping with fundraising events, doing research, and much more. The WCADP
now has an online Volunteer Registration form at
http://www.abolishdeathpenalty.org/Volunteer_Information.htm... It only
takes a minute to sign up. Even if you may have indicated an interest
before, please submit one of the new in-depth forms so that we can best
match your interest with one of the many opportunities available. If you
would like a printed form that you can mail back then just send us an email
at volunteer at abolishdeathpenalty.org or call us at 206.622.8952.

3. Know Someone We Should Know?
Do you have a friend or colleague that shares your views on the death
penalty? Do you know someone that would like to learn more about WCADP?
You can sign them up to receive mailings and email from WCAP at
<http://www.abolishdeathpenalty.org/ContactForm.htm>
http://www.abolishdeathpenalty.org/ContactForm.htm. Or you can just email
them the link to our website ( <http://www.abolishdeathpenalty.org/>
www.abolishdeathpenalty.org) and tell them to go to the "Contact" page to
sign up. (But please, do not sign up anyone directly without first
receiving their permission.)

5. How Are We Doing?
It is a question that is often asked but seldom answered. WCADP is
virtually an all-volunteer organization. Feedback from our members is
critical. Is there something we are doing that you like or dislike? Have
you had an idea and you are unsure with whom you can share it? We want to
know! Send an email to <mailto:info at abolishdeathpenalty.org>
info at abolishdeathpenalty.org or call 206.622.8952. We promise to keep all
comments confidential if that is what you wish. Our only desire is to build
the strongest agency we can so that we can end the scourge of the death
penalty in our lifetimes.
