There are THREE EXECUTIONS scheduled around the United States for next week,
23 - 29 August 2004. So far the response to these notices has been very
positive. We hope that you will take the time to let the world know that we
are watching. There is much work to do in Washington State yet we can not
forget that only as part of a national movement can we create the pressure
to end this immoral practice everywhere:

The following are suggested letters from our colleague Jerry Ward. There
are three letters, one for each appeal. As always, Jerry says "feel free to
cut and paste."
Dear Gov. Perry,
I ask you, Governor Perry, to stop your state's execution of Jasen Busby.
Mr. Busby is scheduled to die next Wednesday, 8/25/2004, for the 1995
murders of 18 year old Tennile Thompson and 16 year old Brandy Gray.
Mr. Busby was still a teenager at the time of this crime. He and the
victims were partying with other friends and got high on marijuana. Mr.
Busby has no record of criminal activity before or after this incident. No
credible showing of 'future dangerousness' has been shown, which is a
requirement of Texas law for imposing the death penalty. Governor Perry, on
humanitarian and legal grounds, you may not execute Mr. Busby.
Former Attorney General of the United States Janet Reno, as well as myriads
of scholars, can find no evidence that the death penalty deters capital
crimes. In fact, the warden of the famous Sing Sing prison believes that the
death penalty exacerbates the violence in his facility by setting an example
of cold-blooded killing. Recent studies show that the largest increase in
capital crimes is in Texas, the state which executes the most people.
Please, Governor Perry, stop this killing of Jasen Busby.
Thank you.

Dear Gov. Perry,
I ask you, Governor Perry, to stop your state's execution of James V.
Allridge III. Mr. Allridge is scheduled to die next Thursday, 8/26/2004,
for the 1985 murder of Brian Clendennen during a robbery.
Mr. Allen was strongly influenced in the commission of this crime by his
older brother, a diagnosed schizophrenic. Further, he not only shows no
'future dangerousness', required by your state for the imposition of the
death penalty, but he has used his time on death row to achieve a 4.0 GPA on
college preparation work and develop his skills as an artist and poet. The
Oscar-winning actress Susan Sarandon is among the owners of Mr. Allen's art
work. Governor Perry, on humanitarian and legal grounds, you may not
execute Mr. Allen.

Dear Gov. Henry,
I am writing to ask you to stop your state's execution of Windell Workman.
Mr. Workman is scheduled to die next Thursday, 8/26/2004 for the 1985 murder
of Amanda Hollman, the 2 year old daughter of his girl friend.
There is nothing that assuages the death of an innocent such as Amanda
Hollman. Yet all of us citizens of the United States of America are
guaranteed certain rights, one of them being a fair trial. If we deny that
to Mr. Workman, how soon will our own rights be denied? A videotape used as
evidence at Mr. Workman's was clearly inadmissible as 'hearsay'. It showed
police officers expressing their personal opinions as to the defendant's
guilt, allegations of prior misconduct and their doubts about his veracity.
It was so clearly prejudicial that this trial cannot meet the constitutional
requirement of fairness. Governor Henry, you must stop this execution!
