That is why fluorite was used as a fluxing agent in the steel industry.
US Steel in Pittsburgh had huge stockpiles of fluorite and other minerals
with neat little signs detailing the purity of the piles. Always wanted one
of those signs. I don't know why, I guess it was the college student in me.

Ahah! Burning doesn't count as a form of luminescence nor does the glow of
ot metals.
When the last ember has died but the forge is still hot, throw some fluorite
nd calcite in it and watch what happens. Better not use your best
pecimens. (You'll need at least than 400° C)
r use a hot air paint-stripper in a dark room, less complicated. You'll
ind up with some powders instead of specimens but it IS interesting.

It might not fluoresce in the rain but I bet it would sure glow in a
blacksmith's forge if you got it hot enuf.
