Someone just asked me, via private email, to make sure discussion of pending legislation is allowed in list rules. I instantly answered back that of COURSE it was, specifically in the rules.

It turns out that it is kinda but it's vague (it actually says something to the effect that Land Use issues are allowed) so I thought I'd take a second to clarify:

Pending and proposed legislation that affects the hobby is absolutely allowed for list discussion.

Adding something to your post like "Well, those conservative @#$(*" or "Those #@$()* liberals", posts slamming the current administration, posts slamming the past administration, mentions of "The liberal press", "Right wing wingnuts," slamming "those bloody environmentalists", "those friggin' polluting mining companies" etc. - hopefully you have the idea by now -  are not allowed. 

(BTW - I'm not saying don't talk about environmentalists, mining, etc. Just keep the emotional content out of it, if you would.)

Discussions of a political nature that have nothing to do with the hobby, are also not allowed, so don't wander in your posts about legislation and stuff.

Anyhow, basically it comes down to this:

I DO want to hear about pending/proposed legislation; I DON'T want to know your political affiliation from the tone of your post.
