I can put clarifications of stuff on the website. The actual "rules" will to
be *very* brief compared to wht they are now, so yeah, they'll probably fit
fine in an email. I'm not sure how much control we have over the contents of
the confirmation email (I'm assuming at least SOME, haven't looked yet(.
I've never actually joined a list where the rules were in the confirmation;
I've hit them where they were sent in the "Welcome" email, though.
Our ad policy is pretty basic:
Include [AD] in the header. No more one ad per month. No "extra mentions" of
your business and sales in regular list emails. You must contribute as a
regular list member in order to post ads. You may include a link to your
site, as a sig line, though it must include your name as well.
Pretty simple, really.
There are always exceptions but for ads, they're pretty few and far between.
As a matter of fact, I can only think of one: If someone asks, on list,
where to find a very specific item, e.g. the "OreRockOn DVD" or "Heulandite
from the Rat's Nest Mine", Tim or John C. can answer ;). I'd expect a lot of
that sort of stuff to actually be handled off list, though, perhaps with
simply an email TO the list that says "I will contact you offlist."
(Note: Currently the rules said something to the affect of 2 per month, but
that we prefer one per month, or something like that. For four years,
though, everyone's pretty much stuck to once per month, so I'm making that a
hard, fast, rule, unless I hear a really brilliant argument against that. ;)
