Thanks, I'm sure you are correct... I had the term "micro-spheres" in my
head and didn't even think "beads..."

If someone wants to know why: tiny spheres or balls of mineral are
really useful in teaching and demonstrating mineral optics. While
helping someone else with their project, I came across some sapphire
balls in 100 - 300 micron sizes, and these are great for demonstrating
interference figures and optical orientation in minerals. Their real
purpose was for jewel bearing in watches and other industrial uses! The
vendor was a little puzzled at first, but then understood my reason for
buying them.

Now of course I would like to have some made of feldspars, quartz,
calcite, topaz, and a few other key minerals. That is why I'm wondering
what equipment might be used to make something that small and round. Of
course, it's a long shot that someone here would know, but then again
I've always been surprised at the depth and breadth of experience
represented here.

All the best,
Don
