[Rockhounds] students looking for fossil help in Georgia

I have had the great pleasure of coaching Science Olympiad teams for
many years in both Fossils, and Rocks and Minerals. I can't help with
this team, but I want to encourage everyone to look for a local team
they can help.
The competition challenges the students to become experts on roughly a
hundred fossils, or about a hundred rocks and minerals, from a
specified list. They take a test that most rockhounds would fail
miserably. Science Olympiad brings the excitement of sporting events to
science.
Don't be surprised if the students know more than you do about the
specimens on the official list. You can really help them by showing
them many different examples, sharing what tidbits you might know about
the specimens, and showing your passion for rockhounding.
The kids who participate in Science Olympiad are our hope for the
future. They are the brightest and most motivated students. Any
encouragement you can give them will be amply repaid.
