[Rockhounds] More foolishness about the '800 million dollar'

Encouraging indeed! Thanks, Gary! I quite agree with you, Brian. The obvious
first priority of the Media is to sell their product, of course. It just
depresses me that I, as a self-taught "Bad Writer," seem to care more deeply
about accuracy and erudition than the journalists and editors who are being
*PAID* to produce this tripe. That's why I spend more time with this elist
than I EVER spend watching the Network news.
Carol, thanks for posting that WSJ link, as I should have. I agree with your
appraisal of the full article, and note that the folks that need a poke in
the eye even more strongly are Fox News. As a "Bad Writer," I know the value
of a *good* editor. However, even in "The Majors," editing seems to have
gone the way of the Dodo. I've often noted, when confronted by a synonimous
non-sequitor, that spell check software isn't miraculous, it's stupid,
literally. It knows only how to spell.
So, my hats off to all of the list members who've taken time to communicate
with the writer and her editors. It seems that there IS hope for the First
Amendment of our Constitution.
BTW, Carol, I'll be among the first to visit and enjoy when The Eclectic
Lapidary site springs forth once again, like the Pheonix, dazzling in all
the colors of the Gem Kingdom! And a BIG thanks to everyone on the list for
brightening my day!
Be Well!
Kris
