Hi Pete,
Verde Valley is not the same as Green Valley (which is indeed south of Tucson). The Verde Valley (often referred to as 'the Verde') is the area in the high desert that is between Mingus Mountain and just north of Sedona and runs east and west from Cottonwood/Clarkdale to the other side of Camp Verde. As metropolis' go, it's kinda like Bisbee maybe a tiny bit bigger LOL! We lived in the area for a number of years and once calculated the entire population of the Verde might, might be 50,000. The only other thing it is famous for is John McCain's almost western Whitehouse located in about the center of the area.
It has, however, been known for serious copper mining as well as the salt mines at Camp Verde.
:)
