[Rockhounds] Belated invite: Richardson Ranch & Pow-wow Madras OR July 4th weekend.

I feel bad about not announcing the Mt. Hood Rock Club trip to McDermitt
last week (yes it was fantastic digging!) so I am inviting anyone who cares
to show up to the Madras Pow-wow and Richardson's Ranch this coming weekend.
I have a terrible schedule this week so I am thinking of doing one of these:
going down Wednesday afternoon and leaving Friday AM, returning that
evening, or leaving here Friday afternoon. Either way I will be staying
there over the weekend. Right now it looks like I won't be able to leave
until Friday afternoon. You can always hook up with the Madras Pow-wow trips
that leave the fairgrounds in Madras Wed-Sat at 8AM. They go to a lot of
ranches that I go to as well. I can get on the ranches anytime so I might
hit one or two of them with or after the Pow-wow if I have time. Otherwise
there's plenty to dig at the Richardson's. There is a field for tents &
trailers but it fills up relatively quickly that weekend for their BBQ on
Sat. afternoon. It's a potluck and everyone is invited. That said, I have
had no problem rolling in Friday evening and finding space for the trailer
the past 3 or 4 years. They have bathroom/showers and a water hose but no
power. You can also stay in the field at the fairgrounds for $5/day (I
think), at the RV park next door, or the KOA in Culver which is a few miles
out of town. Just about all the ranches charge $1/lb. and you should bring
rock hammers, a small pick and shovels. They have some hammers but they
aren't that great and they do have free grain sacks for your rocks. I will
be in a 27' Thoroughbred trailer with a Mt Hood Rock Club sign & a silver
Ram 2500. Email me if you are planning to go.

LOL! I would get Garrett's new Gem Trails of Oregon book too, his waypoints
are 99% correct (I had to get a dig in for those typos!)

I can't believe I'm doing this (wink to you, Tim) but...

You need Tim Fisher's CD.

You really, really, do.

Someone from the list had information on the Gem Trails of Oregon on how the

locations were incorrect. Can anyone direct me to him again. We are heading
out to Oregon in September to visit family and would like to do some rock
hounding. We have the Gem Trails of Oregon, but certainly want to have the
correct information/locations. Also if anyone has sites that you know of (We

will be in Portland for a few days and on the Central Coast) that are not
listed in any of the publications we would greatly appreciate any
information or advice. We are still new at this wonderful hobby.

Vol.83, No.3, the May/June 2008 issue of Rocks and Minerals is the New York
State Special Issue II. Should be no trouble to get yourself a copy of that
and the first one too, will give you a lot of collecting spots.
