[Rockhounds] BLM & Forest Service Geocommunicator: Do you use it?

Hi David,
We still are not talking about the same thing. The Identify button
"identifies" the known information on the land, including the claim
records. It does not necessarily give any information on the old mine
that may be there. I just double checked what I find when I do it and
if you go to an old mine in Idaho, such as the Pacific Mine in the
Bayhorse District southwest of Challis and click on it, the
information that pops up is the records of the mining claims on that
area. In this case, the Pacific Mine is a patented mining claim. The
"Identify" information that pops up is claim information for the
claims that are in that area, and it is for several sections around
the section the Pacific Mine is located in, thus it is claim records
for several square miles of land. There is no information on the mine.
If you are coming up with some other data, please tell me know what
area you are getting actual mine information so I can take a look at
it and see how it differs from what coverage there is this area. Of
course there may be a claim on the mine (or in the area) with the same
name, and thus you will get data for that claim.
Geocommunicator is very useful for many things, including if there
area active claims in an area and where they are located
(approximately at least), but as far as I can tell it does not
provide any information on all those mines out there. Please show me I
am wrong.
Thanks,
Lanny
