Aha! Here's a website for said organization, with downloadable membership
application available and all kinds of other interesting things to look at.

The American Lands Access Association (ALAA) was organized in the

1990's to promote and help ensure the rights of amateur fossil and

mineral collectors, recreational prospectors, and to ensure the use

of public and private lands for educational and recreational

purposes. Because they are recognized as a 501(c)(4) organization,

they can lobby our elected officials, government regulators and

public lands managers.

Many of the members of ALAA have developed working relationships with

local, state and federal officials and legislators. Two members of

the organization currently sit on the boards of local Forestry/BLM

regulators. Several others applied in their areas, but were not

selected this year.

ALAA is also affiliated with the Blue Ribbon Coalition - a national

non-profit organization dedicated to preserving responsible

recreational access to public lands and waters.

Membership in the organization is $25 per year for individuals and

$50 per year for clubs or similar organizations.

I urge you to join the group. It's far better to be able to tell an

elected official that the group represents 50,000 members than it is

to say we represent 500. Funds raised by the organization can be

used for lobbying elected officials...and the more pressure we as

amateurs can put on them, the more effective our efforts can be.

If you're interested in joining, send your check (payable to

A.L.A.A.) to
