[Rockhounds] Need help with Mineral ID

Hi Wes,

Raspberry is more purple than red, do we agree on that or does any of us
have a wrong color in mind?

More purple could be indicative of calcite (crystal defects and chemical
replacements of CO3 by CO2, OH, PO3 and such) all produce a bluish tint in
the overall red fluorescence of manganese replacing calcium.

In dolomite, manganese replacing magnesium would produce a more orange
color. Slightly so but measurable.

Still... that's all very theoretical. Should ever, by moving the specimen, a
small piece break off I'll be glad to measure its fluorescent spectrum (for
what it's worth ;-))). Don't go breaking of pieces now ;-)))

Cheers
