Hmmmm ... That sounds about right. Oh, and for an additional "knew this was
gonna happen," the Feds are threatening to "take back" California State
Parks if they're closed because of budget troubles.
So, just for example, the line of events looks like this ... The BLM
administers Redrock Canyon for many years, allowing collecting ... Then, the
state of California "acquires" that land and declares that we are "allowed"
to take "one souvenir" rock from the established State Monument, thereby
closing by bureaucratic decision an extraordinarily mineral rich area, with
a collecting and mining history of over a century, including what were
California's only commercial fee opal mines. (Thankfully, I collected these
lands in the early 90's, before the "land transfer."
With a smile on my face, I can say to the Cal bureaucrats, "Now you know how
we feel."
