Hi folks,
I know I promised more info on "a day in the life of a mineral dealer" and I
shall deliver shortly, but there is something else I need to do here first.
The posts I promised will appear soon....
With all the recent reports from John Cornish and others describing all the
neat things about the show venues here and the appreciative responses from
those of you who could not be here, I realized that there is someone who has
been overlooked.
He is a long time member of this list and his name is Rick Trapp.
Rick is, and has been for many years, the show committee chairman for the
TGMS show at the convention center - the "main event". This is the largest
and most prestigious mineral show in the world and it is only through the
efforts of Rick and his team of volunteers that it happens at all. In short,
Rick is the guy runs the show. I'll bet most of you were not even aware of
his contribution.
He performs a truly thankless job, transforming inherent total chaos in to
what those of you who attend are bowled over by each year as if it has all
just appeared by magic. He gets to deal with big egos, short tempers,
conflicts, and has probably seen and had to deal with more bizarre
personality types than Sigmund Freud (myself included - yikes!).
He has never to my knowledge as much as asked for, nor has he received, any
real recognition, credit, or praise for all the work he has done over so
many years.
So how about at least a nice round of "cyber-applause" for Rick Trapp. It is
long overdue.
'Nuff said...
Thank you Rick!
TC
