How is this for a possibility?

I am a wise Ships captain. I know I need Ballast. If I load the Mine
tailings they have no Value. If I load the mine run and I arrive first then
I can sell it at a healthy profit. However if that nasty competitor Jean
Jacques le flint arrives the week before I do ... well then I might as well
toss it over the side. 

Also If I buy the mine ruin they load it, If I want tailings or beach crap I
have to either load it or pay someone to load it and since every day I spend
at anchor, is a day lost in a short sailing season I want to load and go.
