[Rockhounds] Yellow Cat Flat, Utah, recent visit

I have begun to view my collecting in a different light over the last several years as our family has grown by two grandsons. While my daughters were never interested in rocks, fossils, minerals, etc.; my grandsons show early signs of being very interested in "hunting rocks with Grandpa". When I collect now, I can't help but think what rock hunting will be like for their generation (just think about what it's like now compared to the 1950's for example). That makes me much more selective in what I take home and much more apt to leave a lot of material for someone's children and grandchildren to enjoy hunting in the future. Of course, that only works if other collectors adopt the same attitude. But then I figure that, while I can't control others collecting habits, I can control mine. So that's what I've done.
Hoping that my grandsons get to enjoy field tripping as much as I've been able to do,
Grandpa

I wish my husband would realize what you have Jay. That there is no need to take more than you will ever get to in a life time. My husband has buckets and buckets of Jasper, Petrified wood and Geodes. I love to go on our treasure hunts but feel as though we should be more picky with our take homes. It is one of our routine arguments...."Get some of these rocks cleared out!"

Hi Bob,
I only need one and I will leave the rest for those that follow. I have
collected many things and I no longer see the sense collecting more than
one that I am only going to display. Check out Puff:
