[Rockhounds] No Magic?!? Welder's eye

Ok. I have to admit to making the same stupid mistake. I spent four
or five hours on a night dig with my light and developed a relatively
mild version of the sandy eye syndrome.
I thought I would be protected by my rather thick prescription
glasses. We are always told that glass will stop the worst of the UV.
Clearly regular eyeglasses do not provide adequate protection.
Can anyone suggest a reasonably priced, effective set of goggles/
glasses/whatever that one might trust to protect eyes? While my
experience was relatively minor, I certainly never want to experience
it again.
What works?
