Nice article Andrew! It is always interesting to see how geology supports
the local economy - be it a town, county or country. What I hate to see are
people who prefer to forget their mining heritage and who haven't visited an
old mining area that feel the need that all must be sealed and dumps graded
and buried. I think heritage tourism by collectors in mining areas around
the world is big business awaiting to be born. They've got the right idea in
western Kentucky, but southern Illinois is generally a polar opposite.
