What I use is usually just a large double (two part) tube of clear epoxy in 
 about a pint of acetone. Some people insist on specific brands that don't  
yellow but I've never had a problem when soaking, only on doublets. Make  
sure to seal the jar afterwards - acetone evaporates quite well. Acetone is 
the  primary ingredient in finger nail polish remover, by the way. When you 
seal the  jar, a little Vaseline or a piece of wax paper might be a good idea 
around the  lid.... I've had a few manage to glue themselves shut and the 
only way to open  them was to break the jar.... If you don't have to break 
the jar, you can save  it for future cabs.
 
This method can be used on most porous materials like rhyolite....  
turquoise, for example. This is also far from my invention. It's been done  for 
quite a few decades.  I've collected rocks for the last 45 years and I  learned 
this one when I was about 9..... the epoxy has gotten better in that  time 
though.
