Subject: [Rockhounds] Potomac Marble

I have been searching on the web for a sample of Potomac Marble for some
time and have been unsuccessful. I am originally from Maryland (now living
in virtually rockless South Mississippi) and my mother was a geologist; when
she was in training at Johns Hopkins in the 1960s we used to collect samples
of this stone frequently at an outcrop at Rose's Tavern along old US 40 in
Western Maryland, which was on the way to Hopkins' Camp Singewald in
Washington County, MD. I thought this rock was so interesting and
beautiful. I understand that part of the US Capitol was built using this
stone. I am not trying to play on anyone's sympathies here, but I lost
nearly my entire rock collection (I took some of my clothes, my best rocks
and my port!) and definitely my deceased Mom's entire rock collection, which
included the Potomac Marble samples, in Katrina over three years ago.

If anyone has any good-quality Potomac Marble samples that they are willing
to part with, polished, whatever, I am willing to pay for such a thing. I
miss looking at them. I realize that in order to show the real look of
Potomac Marble, the sample might have to be fairly good-sized.

Kathy E.
