Between 1909 and 1943 you would be given arsenic containing drug if you were
so unlucky to get what killed Beethoven.  Before penicillin there was
Salvarsan... Syphilis is a bad way to die, I'm told and you would prefer the
side-effects of arsenic-poisoning anytime.
