How about we start with a rule that says the main purpose of the list
is to discuss rockhounding and associated topics? Perhaps you could
start a different list for the purpose of "educating newbies."

BTW, *I've* been in the computer industry since 1965, and programmed
before that. The first digital computer I programmed had pinboards,
neon lamp logic, and rotary switch counters for looping. (Burroughs
E101.) I'm still not paranoid, so maybe I'm a "newbie", too. The
