The chart you described was in Tom Weller's "Science Made Stupid." The book
is posted on-line at http://www.besse.at/sms/smsintro.html. Look under the
link for "Tables."

Yes, that's quite a chart, Alan; looks like the person who composed it just
did it from memory without bothering to look anything up. Cute with all
the
animal and cave-man sketches interspersed all over.
It reminds me of what I always thought was this pretty funny joke geologic
time chart I've seen--no idea where it came from, and when I saw it dates
back
to the days when we just circulated paper copies of things; I used to
sometimes pass this out at teacher workshops for the humor. Probably if I
describe
it here, someone will know or find it and send us all a link to it. It had
geologic periods or epochs like "Plasticene" and "Obscene" and maybe
"Ovaltine", and descriptions of what was going on, like, "Big warty ugly
things",
"Even bigger warty ugly things", "Freeways Upthrust", and "First
Republicans".
It always makes me laugh to think about it (I still have a copy, somewhere
or
other).
I'll leave it to others to find all the good errors in the chart you
showed... other than to quibble about the ages given, some of which are
pretty far
off... well, one I'll have to comment on, it seems to say that the
Pleistocene
Epoch lasted from 1,025,000 to 25,000 years, and that its duration was
10,000,000; that doesn't exactly jive very well.
Cheers, Pete

(Previously posted on PaleoList)... This link will take you to a truly
bizarre geological time chart that was sent to our park's gift shop with
hopes of
being sold. It has some many mistakes it is truly unique. The only funnier
chart I have seen was done for "Science Made Stupid" and it was done
intentionally!
How many errors can you find? I've give away one - it has the Permian
period
in the Mesozoic.
