[Rockhounds] Important Windows Security Update

I don't write a note like this very often, but considering that it came from
my kid upon whom I've spent Big Bucks training him to understand this
stuff...

My son is a computer support technician at the University of Minnesota.
This afternoon he called me up and said to run Windows Update on all my
machines as soon as possible. There is a nasty attack virus out there that
can infect your machine without you doing anything. The security hole was
reported to Microsoft and they had a patch out within 10 hours. They rarely
do these mid-cycle patches any more, so they are viewing this as a critical
patch. If you are behind a decent firewall, you're probably safe. He said,
though, that you should still run the update to be absolutely secure.

as soon as possible and get your updates. You may need to reboot a couple
of times after doing this. Also... go to this page and run Updates a couple
of times until you see a message that says there are no more critical
updates. This will be the case if you haven't been running Updates on a
regular basis.

When my son says update, I update. If the university trusts him to keep
their computers alive, so do I.

Gary

PS. Please, no smarmy "I run a Mac, Neener, Neener, Neener..." I get it.
