[Rockhounds] Sugilite fluorescence

Hi Dave,

I'm sorry if you got the impression that I was talking down to you. I assure
you that I was'nt.
It's hard to help someone out without having all the facts and it would be
nice if people would volunteer as much information as possible when asking a
question.
I do realize, however, that I don't live in a perfect world and that I
sometimes need to remind the other party that I have many qualities but
clairvoyance is not one of them ;-))))
No, without kidding, you asked a perfectly good question and I asked
additional info with a "general reminder to everybody in the group" that
more facts result in better and faster answers. No need to get exited.

About your specimen: South Africa is a big place... could your specimen be
from Wessel's mine or the 'N Chwaning I or II mines?
No uranyl there but a lot of manganese (near Kuruman, Kalahari manganese
fields!)
The red fluorescing stuff might be mangano calcite or even kutnohorite?
The sugilite is, as far as I know, non-fluorescent.

Axel
