Hi,

In this case, a chip of the material under a polarizing light microscope 
would give a lot of answers.  If it is glass, it will remain dark under 
crossed polarizers.  A GIA analyst should be able to do this, since the 
fellow mentioned he has a local GIA contact (I think).
