[Rockhounds] Subscript notations in e-mails

After re-reading my recent e-mail,and getting Pete's this morning, I 
realized that the chemical formulas in e-mails would be a lot easier to read 
if subscripts were used.
(Fe3O4, etc.)

BUT, I haven't been able to find an easy way to do this! I can do it in 
Word, but not in Outlook Express.

Does anyone know an easy way to do this?
