I told a friend of mine about this conversation and he gave me this info to post
to the list...he has the best VV results! I have seen his black opal log (red fire)
almost a year later it is still perfect no crazing or cracking...he swears by the
tailings!
------------------------------------------------------------------
From Shep Koss: In two trips I've found green conk, blue opal log, black opal/red fire
log <total weight 50.57 grams), crystal opal, walnut sized black opal
red & green fire, numerous 1-5 carat chips with fire, wood with opal
inclusions two thumb sized logs both with fire and numerous pieces
without fire mostly in cream/black combos. Virtually all of it came from
tailings with the bulk stabilized due to being found in tailings. Best
results came from starting at bottom of tailings and sliding up on my
butt while scraping in front of me with a small hand held garden rake.
Screen sifting didn't seem as efficient for me. Working the wall was a
lot of effort with meager results. Although the potential may be higher,
others working the wall were more impressd with my tailings results.
Basically, a lot of sloppy people doing sloppy wall searches enriches
the tailings.
