Yes, safe crackers use it all the time!

We used to catch wasps with this stuff when I was about 16. Put a tiny bit
on a sugar cube and let it dry... Wasps coming after the sugar didn't even
have to land on it. The vibration of their wings already caused the
detonation. One disadvantage of the system was that if you put too much on a
sugar cube and then put that cube on the kitchen window-sill, very sweet
wasp-pulp would come flying through the kitchen along with some glass. We
changed our strategy after that.
