[Rockhounds] Why are we still living in the Iron Age???!

The Dust Devil sunstone mine in Plush, OR uses this product,
or a very similar one. I have seen it break 10(?) ton boulders of the
{quot}cap rock{quot} that overlies the sunstone-bearing lava flow (I have
no idea what kind of lava it is, but it is extremely tough and nearly
impossible to break up with my BoscHammer).

Hi Steve,

Sorry for the delay in answering. I was out of touch for a couple
of
weeks working in Alaska and traveling through  BC.

My mistake; it wasn't Rock Blaster, having too much fun working up

north to think straight. As soon as I read your message I saw my

error. It is Boulder Buster. Didn't used to be able to find it on
the
internet, but it is easy to get information now. The one I referred
to
is at

http://boulderbuster.ca/. This unit uses a shotgun shell size

cartridge. Simpler and more powerful than the Micro Blaster, but

requires a larger diameter hole. Now, I see they have also come up

with a booster cartridge to make it more powerful and break larger

boulders.

A search of the web also turned up the same name at

http://www.boulderbuster.com . Similar thing, but different
mechanical parts and different type of
cartridge.

Lanny

We also have at our disposal
such things as the Micro Blaster:
drill a small diameter hole, insert a small cartridge, set it
off
and split a big boulder into pieces. Or the Rock Blaster,
same
principle, only it uses a shotgun shell size cartridge, same

thing, works great. The nice thing about these are that they
can
be used by anyone, no blasting license needed. The cartridges
are
classified like ammunition.

Why does the average mineral collector need to blow up rocks?
Would the governments consider us using explosives and not
hand
tools. Would they look at us as commercial collectors if we
use
such things? And would the careless and uncaring destroy
things
and mess it up for the rest of us if they had more powerful

tools? The answer to the last question is yes, they already
do
that with dynamite and bulldozers if not watched
carefully.

Lanny
