Indeed Margaret!

I heard about technology being ready to use thorium instead of
uranium/plutonium in nuclear fission reactors. Thorium would be safer and
the fission products would cool much faster.
You cannot use thorium for weapons-grade fission material so there would be
no objections against "rogue-states" using it.
As things are now: can we really demand that India and China limit energy
consumption while we drive around in our monster-wheel SUVs?

Thorium is abundant enough...
