The best lapidary use for this is to make wooden or plastic display box
sets for your collection, IMO. You might find it useful for cutting
metal blanks for jewelry findings, but there are much more reliable
means for cutting slabs, etc.
That said, I do have some fossiliferous shale I am going to try to trim
with my jig saw but the shale has a hardness of 1-2.
FYI: There are some cheap bandsaws and afordable diamond blades if you
are doing inlays. I am not up on the status of the diamond blades for
the jeweler's saw. Tile saws with diamond blades are available from
$40US if you want to cut small items.
