Axel,
I read Anthony Fraser-Smith's paper on his detection of E-M quake precursors two weeks prior to
the Loma Prieta (near San Francisco) in, I believe it was 1989.
At the moment i don't have the time to retrieve his paper and send it, but the article at the
link below mentions his experiment and will get you started.
In the early 90's I began building a detector such as he used, but never got round to anchoring
and weatherproofing it outdoors for a fair test. I still have the low noise preamp I built using
differential, operational amplifiers (op-amps), with a gain of 80 db ( X 10,000 ), but lost
interest in the project following a bad case of pneumonia.
