If you are interested in making cabs, by all means get a Genie.
For cutting rough, there are so many options, join a local club that has saws and use some of their equipment at work meetings.
Then you'll have hands on experience to help decide what type saw you want to build or buy for yourself. And also the sharing of thoughts with the other members in that club.
IMHO.

Subject: [Rockhounds] Speaking of lapidary tools....Any favorites?
Hi everybody,
> I was wondering if any of you have favorite lapidary tools. Are there any uncommon tools that anyone could share with the list. I am interested in building some of my own equipment and was looking for ideas and inventions that others have. I have a lot of material that would be neat cut and made into jewelry but have little experience and would love to learn. Sometimes the simplest things are very effective.
Thanks in advance.
Kevin
