I'd have to agree that the fossil end of the show was a real disappointment this year.

a day job in addition to the fossil business. I go to buy. Unfortunately
this was not the year to miss the main show. It was a chance to see many of
the most spectacular US mineral specimens, all under one roof. I really
hated to miss it. Check out some of the reports from Trinity Minerals,
particualrly the reports entitled 'Displays".

As for my adventures, this year was a lot less interesting from a fossil
buying perspective. I saw very little new stuff and the prices of some old
favorites were ridiculously high, not proportional to the change in the
value of the US dollar, but in some cases 3 and 4 times the price of 2 years
ago. Still with some looking, one could find some decent items for resale. It
was much more work than in the past.

In addition, the I-10 exits to many show locations were closed for a 3 year
construciton program, which made driving interesting at times. Fortunately,
I brought my GPS. On the other hand there seemed to be a lot of decent
mineral specimens around as my buddy blew $8,000 in 48 hours and had to
really tighten his budget for the remaining days.

Dear Rockhounds,
At the risk of starting a deluge, I'd love to hear some "When I went to
Tucson..." stories. Getting there in person remains a dream. So, I'll live
vicariously through you all. The good, the bad, the outstanding, the
disappointing, the people, the pets, anything that could add color and
insight for those of us who can't get there.

Thanks!
