Hi BJ,

To answer a small part of your questions.  If those grits are black they are most likely silicon carbide.  The grit is frequently used in tumbling  I'm sure others here on list can advise you if there are other common applications. The numbers represent the grit size (I THINK it is estimated grains per inch), so your 60 grit is the coarsest and your 600 is the finest
