You are so right, Michael.  The word PHOTOGRAPHY comes from the Greek 
words meaning "to draw with light," and the professional and serious 
amateur photographer considers existing light, or manipulates 
artificial light as a prime issue, especially when photographing 
minerals.  It is often extremely difficult to get a photo which 
captures the essential quality of the specimen and also creates an 
artistic or "wow" factor.  The only easy part is that a rock sits 
still and doesn't get tired waiting for you to get the light just right!
