Clearcoat here in the states refers to cheap clear spray paint, usually
Krylon.

Carotene, hm? That would mean that Haloarchaea, however primitive, must have
great eyesight. (remember: eat your carrots, it's good for your eyes?)
Carotene is UV sensitive I think.
