Actually John that is not quite true. The moon will be in a gibbous phase 
and its glow will obliterate all but the brightest Perseid meteors. If the 
normal rate is 60 per hour, expect to see less than half that number because 
of moonlight.

People often ask what direction do I look to see the Perseids. The correct 
answer is "straight up." If you gaze to the northeast, you will see short 
trails as they are coming more in your direction. If you gaze toward the 
south, you will see longer trails as they sail high above.
