All of the ideas for filtering old oil are good, but in Carol's situation,
given that it is mystery oil in the saw, I would clean it all out and
dispose of the oil as well as completely cleaning out the sump. There is no
point in cleaning the old oil as the last thing I would want to mix that and
contaminate new oil with whatever stuff is in it. 

 At the same time Carol I would inspect for any rust and if needed wire
brush it and repaint where it is rusted. 

 Now is also a good time to check the bearings as well in the unit.
