When I was a kid, probably back in the mid 50's, I had a small melanoma
removed from my face by a doctor in New York City using radium. I can
remember the feel of the metal tube against my cheek, and the click of the
lead shutter that exposed the radium. I still have small "dent" on my cheek
from it. Scary doctor, though. Just stubs for fingers. Turns out he
trained under Curie as a VERY young man and lost all his fingers in the
process.
