That 10 cm was a WAG, but considering the strength of gold as a structural
material I wonder if a 1 cm thickness would be possible in a 3 meter disk.
The Hale disk is of course horizontal and fully supported underneath and
stationary. This 3 meter disk would be used vertically and manhandled around
the quarry. Not the same sort of thing at all.
